SaneDriving

Road safety is a mind-set, and a mind-set can be taught.

Sane Driving works on the behaviour behind the wheel, because that is where most preventable crashes begin.

The problem we work on

India has some of the world’s highest numbers of road crashes, deaths and injuries. The heaviest losses fall on people aged 18–35, in the most productive years of their lives. Formal two-wheeler education is largely absent.

Most crashes are preventable. They come from the wrong behaviours, not from missing skills.

Our approach

Emotions drive decisions. A list of do’s and don’ts rarely changes what someone does at a red light. Values, beliefs and attitudes do. So we work on those, and on the social norms around them.

Traffic mirrors culture. What we practise on the road each day as ritual is what we practise in daily life. Communities, parents, schools and employers can teach freedom, explain the need for discipline, set boundaries and guide people toward norms of safety, coexistence and respect for fellow citizens.

What we offer

  • Sane Driving Civic workshops. Safe, Responsible Driver Workshops with proprietary exercises that use peer pressure and group norms. Participants take the role of driver, passenger and other road users, and leave able to act as role models in self-directed ways.
  • Posters and stickers. Social impact posters and stickers that act as everyday reminders.
